We've been busy settling into routine around here, after three moves in almost as many months. Yes, I've been absent, almost totally so, from this blog. I've been focusing on our family. FitDad continues to be the main financial support our family through his exciting yet commute-heavy new assignment and FitBoy is an ever-changing source of joy in our lives.
Through the recent changes, I'm feeling very encouraged in my roles as mother and "home manager" (à la Simple Mom). And I'm also navigating the maze of my own exercising so I can be "fit for duty."In the new year, I'm looking to focus on my family's (and my) self care and health, along with keeping an eye on our budget. My plan is to pop in here about once a week, but not feel stressed out by it. I'm also working on developing an exciting new delivery model for personal training here in our new neighborhood.
If you're interested on what I'll be focusing on in 2010, here's an excerpt from our boot camp newsletter about my goals:
1. More sleep. Obviously with a newborn, I couldn't do it, but now I can. This means going to sleep before 10pm and shutting of my brain (exciting books and all TV and computer at 9pm).
2. More probiotics. Pediatrics Journal published a study in which probiotics were found to reduce cold and flu symptoms in 3-5 year olds. With an active toddler and cold and flu season upon us, I've been trying to remember to get our whole family taking probiotics regularly.
3. Keep moving. Each day it's my goal to get out and move at least 25 minutes, which isn't the same as exercising. Exercise time counts as moving time, but a brisk walk, especially to/from the park with our son, boosts my mood and, of course, calorie burn substantially.
4. Make time for exercise. Two days a week of intense exercise works for me, just like we offer at boot camp. Three days would be ideal, but I haven't figured out how yet. And honestly, I lack the motivation. The class I love is offered only twice each week, so that's what I'm doing!
5. Plan meals each week. Not only does this help keep our food budget in check, but it helps us eat fresh foods that are season. I, probably like most of you, have cans of soup stocked in my pantry in case I don't feel like cooking, but I feel much better about how our family is eating when I cook up some fresh veggies, add some protein to the meal and sit down and eat what I've prepared. An alternative, of course, is to prepare and freeze some soups or easy-to-reheat meals myself ahead of time.
There you have it: they aren't resolutions, just a glimpse into what I'll be working on! I encourage you to take a minute and set a few goals yourself, even for just the next 30 days. Write 'em down, tell a pal and then just do it!
