It's Wednesday and time to check-in with Rosey for her first report of the 6-week fitness challenge. By all accounts, it was a great week! Not only did she embrace the concept of a "bank" of exercise and food choices, but she added in some bonuses of her own. Sugar-free days (and by this we mean no artificial sweeteners, either) and extra ab work. Way to go!
I love seeing people owning their choices. Not only is it great for getting quicker results, but self-efficacy is one of the goals we have as trainers -- she'll see results long after we end our weekly check-ins.
Let's see what else is cookin' with Rosey:
Amy @Feasibly Fit Mom: How's it going ~ how do you feel so far?
Week 1 was a little easier than I expected; I guess I wasn't quite as out of shape as I thought I was. I already feel like I have a little more stamina, and it seems to be showing up in my walking and especially when I'm digging weeds.
Amy @FFM: Has anything been easier than you thought it'd be?
Surprisingly, avoiding sugar has been easier than I thought because I was in a daily habit of having sweets.
Amy @FFM: What do you need the most encouragement with?
I know I will need encouragement to stay off sugar as the sugar-free days increase each week.
Amy @FFM: What was your secret for adding those extra sugar free days?
I don't know that it was anything special. Unfortunately, sugar is very addictive for me, so if I have a little, I tend to have a lot. I was very unsure of how well I'd be able to do avoiding it, so I knew I needed to start my week off without any sugar so if I didn't make it through the day, I'd have more days to try. Day 1 went by without sugar and I didn't miss it much, so I thought I'd try for Day 2 and it went well, so I just kept trying and was successful five days.
One day when I had a strong a craving, I carried a piece of candy around with me for at least 30 minutes, but during that time I drank a couple of glasses of water, which got me through so I never did eat the candy.
Amy @FFM: Have you noticed any changes in energy level, strength, appearance, cravings, etc.?
As I mentioned above, I feel like my stamina has increased, and I am probably a little stronger in my legs. I think my belly has gone down a little, which may be from avoiding sugar, but my overall appearance seems about the same because weight I put on (and take it off) tends to get distributed all over, so I stay fairly proportional.
I did fit into a top that has been a little too tight in the arms so I guess they must be toning up a little. Probably, the best thing of all, though, is after just one week I am sleeping a little bit better each night (and every little bit helps!).
Thanks to all of you who commented ... it definitely helped!
